So one day, back in high school, I came across an article talking about the success story of Oprah Winfrey. A teenager at that time, I was going through a weird phase in my life and was unable to formulate opinions on various social and mental issues. Oprah's story completely changed me and shaped who I am today.
Oprah not only grew up in poverty, but also endured years of mental, sexual and physical abuse. She later broke free from these torments which paved the way for her success. A mother at the age of 14, she lost her infant and had enough in her palette to bring her down. However, she never succumbed to these discouragements. At 17, she won the Miss Black Tennessee beauty pageant. At age 19 she wanted to pursue a career in media. This decision of hers payed off as she became the first black female news anchor before the age of 20.
After getting fired multiple times, she finally landed a job at "AM Chicago" which later changed it's name to "The Oprah Winfrey Show". This became one among the highest-rated shows of all time. This is when she realised that her calling in life was to help people.
Now 65, Oprah has continued to inspire millions of people throughout the globe everyday. She's a role model for a lot of people because of her troubled childhood and charitable work.
“Your real job in life is to figure out what it is you are called to do,” she says, “And you use a job until you can figure out what the calling is."
She through her life story has inpired me to not to be a quitter. Her life's played a major role in helping me change the way I look at life and to empathise with people who need it.
