Ratan Tata. Ratan Naval Tata (born 28 December 1937) is an Indian industrialist, philanthropist, and a former chairman of Tata Sons. He was chairman of Tata Group, from 1990 to 2012, and again, as interim chairman, from October 2016 through February 2017, and continues to head its charitable trusts. He is the recipient of two of the highest civilian awards of India, the Padma Vibhushan (2008) and Padma Bhushan (2000). He is well known for his business ethics and philanthropy.

Ratan Tata’s father Naval Tata was the adopted son of Ratanji Tata and Navajbai Tata. Earlier Naval Tata was growing in J.N. Petit Parsi Orphanage. Navajbai Tata, the grandmother of Ratan Tata was very fond of him. When Ratan Tata was just 10 years old, his parents got separated in 1940 and then he was raised by his grandmother.

With dream to become an Architect Ratan Tata went to Amereica to take Bachelors degree in Architecture from the Cornell University, USA, and has pursued and Advanced Management Program from the Harvard Business School, USA. 

It was in 1962 that he joined his family business the Tata Group. Till 1970 he work in different companies  of Tata groups. In 1970 he got promotes as Manager. In 1971 he was assigned as head of Nelco company which manufacture TV and radio. During this time Nelco was in loss. In 3 years Ratan Tata increase the market share of Nelco from 3% to 20%.But due to National Emergency and Economic Slowdown in India tata Groups have to shutdown Nelco. This was the first failure in Ratan tata life. 

In 1975 Ratan Tata pursued Advanced Management Program from the Harvard Business School, USA. In 1977 Ratna Tata was assigned Ratan tata the Tata Express Mill and due to lack of investment the company was shutdown soon and this was the second failure in the life of Ratna Tata.

In 1981 Ratan Tata was appointed as the chairman of Tata industry and in 1991 he was appointed as the chairman of Tata groups by J.R.D Tata. In 1998 Ratan tata launced Tata Indica the first luxurious car launched by Tata Motors but due to lots of criticism the sale of Tata Indica decreased and did not get good respnse from market and the car was flopped within 1 year of launched. Due to which people suggested Ratan tata ro sell Tata motors to some other internationa companies.

Rata Tata went to Ford Company to sell Tata Motors but due to bad behaviour of Bill Frod toward Rata Tata the deal did not happen. To take revenge Ratan Tata launched the new version of Tata Indica and after few years the Tata Motors did good in market and earned lots of profit and durin the same time Ford was in loss due to Jaguar and Land Rover. In 2008 Ratan tata bought land Rover and jaguar from Ford in $2.3 Billion. Now both land Rover and jaguar is part of Tata motors and doing good in market.

Ratan tata bought many companies durin his tenure as Chairman of Tata groups. In 2000 he bought Canada's Tetley tea bag manufacturin company and become the world's biggest tea bag manufacturing company. In 2004 he bought south korea's Daewoo commercial vehicle company and changed its name to Tata Commercial comapany. In 2007 Tata bought London's Corus group a steel comany which got renamed to Tata Steel Europ. 

In 2008 Ratan Tata launched Nano Car for common middle class people at just Rupees 1 lakh. In starting the car got huge success but later the was criticised as cheap car and lost its success and did do good in market and the ar flopped.

Learning the power of internet, Ratan Tata start investing in companis like Ola cabs, PayTm, Xiomi, Snapdeal, Zivame, cashkaro, firstcry, Cardekho, lenskart, kyazoonga, BlueStone, Urban Ladder any many other companies.

28 december, 2012 at the age of 75 years, Ratan Tata resigned as Tata Groups chairman. Ratan Tata love reading books and playing with animals. In his career of 21 years as Tata Group Chairman he increased the revenue of Tata by 40 times and profir by 50 times. Today Tata Groups have ore than 100 companies in more than 150 countries having 7 lakhs employees. For the love of its country Tata Group gives 66% of its profit for the welfare of its country.
