JAIPUR, RAJ – june3 ,2019

RATAN TATA  born in mumbai 28th december 1937, he was gem of the Tata family, and great-grandson of Jamsetji Tata, the founder of Tata Group. Ratan Tata was a highly educated. He did his  Bachelors degree in Architecture from the Cornell University, USA, and then moved to harvard business school to pursue Advanced Management Program .Ratan, after completing his higher studies returned to India and turned down a job at IBM on JRD Tata’s advice and joined the Tata Group in 1962, for which he was sent to Jamshedpur to work on the shop floor at Tata Steel, just one of several thousand employees.

In the year 1971  he was made the Director of National Radio and Electronics (Nelco).Under his guidance, Nelco, soon claimed the 25% share of the consumer electronics market. Though Ratan Tata continued to believe in the fundamental soundness of Nelco, the venture did not survive due to economic recession in   year 1975 when Prime Minister Indira Gandhi declared a state of emergency
But it did not stop or undermine him. He emerged as a winner. Under his leadership, Tata Tea acquired Tetley, Tata Motors acquired Jaguar Land Rover and Tata Steel acquired Corus, which have turned Tata from a largely India-centric company into a global business.its  65% revenues coming from abroad.
“Ratan Tata outperformed JRD. He  thought out of the box and came up with path-breaking concepts like the Nano,” – Bala V Balachandran, faculty member at Kellogg School of Management.

Each time, his attention to people and to details, his courtiousness, modesty, sense of calm as well as his intellect and ability to think rationally have inspired me to no end. What has stood out for me is his intellectual curiosityand his eagerness to contribute towards making the world a better place. He is a perfect picture on how a veritable leader should be. He is an ideal role model for founders who are about to begin as well as, entrepreneurs who are leading some of the biggest startups.

Ratan Tata was honored with Padma Bhushan, one of the highest civilian awards in 2000 and is the true jewel of the Tata Group that has made it shine as a corporate brand.
