1 "Ups and downs in life are very important to keep us going because a straight line even in an ECG means we are not alive."
One success does not make a person invincible and one failure does not mean that there is no hope anymore. While changes are uncomfortable, they are also required to move forward as a stagnant life will not reward you.Success and failure are a part of life but they are not the deciding factors. In order to move towards greater heights, one has to climb and while you might slip and fall, there is always an opportunity for you to get back up and start over. But if you give up, you might not fall anymore, but you won't reach anywhere either.
2 "Take the stones people throw at you. And use them to build a monument."
A lot of people give up when they are criticised and are not supported. In fact, a lot of innovative people give up on their dreams because there are a million voices telling them that it won't work. However, Tata believes the one should take the criticism in stride and use it as a tool to fuel their efforts. Every piece of criticism can be turned into a success story which is what one should try to do rather than giving up when people are hoping that you would.
3 "I don't believe in taking right decisions. I take decisions and then make them right."
Entrepreneurs and innovators are questioned every time they wish to venture into a new zone and a lot of people stress the importance of taking the 'right decisions'. However, sometimes the best way is to make a decision and then work to make it right.
4 "If you want to walk fast, walk alone. But if you want to walk far, walk together"
There is so much more one can achieve when they have a solid support system and people around them who they can trust and rely on. No matter how brilliant you are, if you are alone you might not achieve what a great team can achieve when they are working towards a common goal with passion and dedication.
5 Make a difference
He has retired but he is still seen working. Recently, he invested his personal savings in Snapdeal- one of India’s leading e-commerce website.
6 "None can destroy iron, but its own rust can. Likewise, none can destroy a person but his own mindset can."
No matter how talented, hard-working or genius one is, if their attitude is not right, they can destroy themselves. One of the classic examples is Steve Jobs refusing surgery when he found out that he had cancer. Despite several people telling him otherwise, he believed that medicines and diet can help cure him. The decision cost him his life because by the time he realised his mistake, the cancer was already at an incurable stage.
7 Have heroes
He was instrumental in the development of Tata Nano, largely dubbed as the world’s cheapest passenger car.
8 "Wo insaan jo dusaro ki nakal karta hai thode time ke liye safal ho sakta hai but jiwan me bahut aage nahi badh sakta"
There are countless examples of people like Bill Gates, JRD Tata, Jeff Bezos, Steve Jobs and Azim Premji who have achieved great success because of innovation. Ratan Tata also believes that innovation is a key to success as those who copy others might get ahead for some time but they will not be able to sustain for long and the innovators will always have an edge which will propel them forward sooner or later.
9 Take chances
He completed his B.S. in architecture with structural engineering from Cornell University in 1962, and the Advanced Management Program from Harvard Business School in 1975.
10 Do what can’t be done
He is on the jury panel of Pritzker Architecture Prize – considered to be one of the world’s premier architecture prizes.
