The legendary winning mentality of Michael Jordan led him to 6 championship rings with the Chicago Bulls. He is widely considered as the greatest basketball player to have ever lived on this planet, and very, frankly speaking, I personally agree with this opinion. I will try and explore why in this article
Jordan was great as soon as he entered the league. He won Rookie Of The Year in his first year in the NBA in 1985. In fact, he was great in college too. He won college player of the year in 1984 and led his team, North Carolina, to NCAA victory in 1982 by hitting the game-winning jumper. In the year 1988, he became the first player to win the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award and the Defensive Player of the year (DPOY) award in the same year. Overall, Jordan won the MVP award 5 times in his career, second highest after Kareem Abdul Jabar’s 6. Michael Jordan won the NBA Finals MVP award 6 times, which is an all-time record.
The Michael Jordan mentality had an effect on many future players. The league is constantly on the lookout for the next Jordan. The player that came closest was Kobe Bryant. It’s fair to say that that the “Mamba Mentality” was derived from Jordan himself. Jordan was also a bit harsh on his teammates, to get the best out of them. This was all part of the process to make the teammates around him better. Jordan truly bled basketball and did everything in his power to succeed. He also became an icon for the African American Athlete. He was also a major American ambassador to the rest of the world
