Atul Kasbekar has been known as the first Indian winner of the prestigious International Food and Beverage Creative Excellence Awards (FAB Awards), an influential fashion photographer as well as a Bollywood film producer. He realised his prolonged passion for photography after starting his study at UDCT (now Institute of Chemical Technology). He left his chemical engineering degree to pursue a photography career at Brooks Institute in Santa Barbara, US and graduated as a Topper of the Batch.
“I enjoyed taking photographs of my sister and my dog. This was from Class 6 onwards. But I enjoyed other things too. It never crossed my mind to think of photography as a career option. It was after I joined UDCT and started my Chemical Engineering that I realised that that wasn't what I wanted to do. I remember meeting Prahlad Kakkar after my first year in UDCT and he told me to find what I enjoyed and to do that because then it wouldn't be work. I quit engineering in the second year.” said Atul Kasbaker.
After graduating from Brooks Institute, he took a year in Los Angeles to train with numerous photographers such as Dennis Gray, Ron Slenzak, James B Wood, Jay Silverman, Jay P Morgan, Bill Werts, and David Le Bon.
In 1991, he finally started his professional photographer pathway by setting his first studio – Negative Space and his career has been blooming further since then.
