Saina Nehwal entered Olympics in the year 2008 at the Beijing Games. She was 18 then and had the huge responsibility of representing India on her shoulders. While she didn’t win an Olympic medal then, Saina Nehwal became the first Indian woman ever to reach the quarter-finals in the Olympic Games.
4 Brought home India's first-ever Olympic medal in Badminton
At the 2012 Olympics, Saina Nehwal brought home India’s first-ever Olympic medal in badminton. She won the bronze after her opponent Wang Xin of China had to retire midway through their match.
5 Trained under former badminton player
At the Gopichand Academy in Hyderabad, Saina Nehwal trained under former badminton player and currently, the Chief National Coach for the Indian Badminton team, Pullela Gopichand.
