Cristiano Ronaldo is undoubtedly one of the greatest football players of all time and he continues to perform at an elite level even at the age of 35. His consistent performances for both – club and country have simply been phenomenal. He has won numerous accolades and trophies during a stellar career that has seen him play against some of the best teams in the world. Here’s a list of 5 times his performances simply shocked the world.

  1. 1 Portugal 3-3 Spain, World Cup | June 15, 2018

A more appropriate score line for this match would’ve been RONALDO 3 – 3 Spain. This match is the most remembered match from the 2018 World Cup simply because of Ronaldo’s hat-trick. The match was evenly contested and it lived up to its hype. The icing on the cake was Ronaldo’s free kick in the 88th minute to level the score.

  2. 2 Arsenal 1-3 Manchester United | Champions League semi-final | May 5, 2009

Probably the best effort by Ronaldo in a Manchester United jersey. After Man United's 1-0 victory at Old Trafford in the first leg, the semi-final tie was ideally poised, but any expectations Arsenal had of reaching the finale were dashed within 11 minutes of the return fixture. In the eighth minute, Ronaldo set up Ji-Sung Park to score, and then he fired in a breath-taking 40-yard free-kick minutes later.

  3. 3 Real Madrid 3-0 Wolfsburg | Champions League quarter-final | April 12, 2016

After being beaten 2-0 by Wolfsburg in the first leg, Real Madrid turned to Ronaldo to save them. He rose to the equation and delivered a great performance at the big stage. He netted a hat-trick at the Bernabeu. The third, a free-kick was especially memorable and Zinedine Zidane's side would go on to win the first of three consecutive Champions League titles.

  4. 4 Sweden 2-3 Portugal | World Cup qualifying play-offs | November 19, 2013

To reach the 2014 World Cup finals, Portugal needed a play-off, but fortunately, they had Ronaldo. In his head-to-head battle against Zlatan Ibrahimovic, he came out on top with a stunning hat-trick to secure a 4-2 aggregate victory. This was also the night that Ronaldo became the all-time leading goal scorer for Portugal, his hat-trick helping him accomplish 50 goals for Portugal.

  5. 5 Juventus 3-0 Atletico Madrid | Champions League round of 16 | March 12, 2019

In the first leg of their Champions League tie in 2019, Atletico Madrid beat Juventus 2-0, and Diego Simeone's side definitely know how to defend a lead. But with a showstopping hat-trick, Ronaldo exposed their defense, reminding everyone of his ability to turn a tie on his head single-handedly. He scored two headers to level the tie at 2-2 before completing the comeback from the penalty spot.
