Pandemic changed the way we live and brought some challenges into our daily routine. Studying online, for example. It’s hard to be concentrated where there are so many distractions around us. Here are 10 simple tips how to stay motivated and get through the online classes.
1 WAKE UP AT LEAST 15 MINUTES BEFORE THE CLASS
Alarm wakes you up, you look at the hour and it's 8:00. Your classes just started... You jump out of a bed, grab a laptop and try to connect. Wi-Fi is not working. After 5 minutes, you accessed the class and write in the chat "Sorry, I'm late". Don't be that person. The way you wake up, might influence how you feel during all day. Getting out of the bed, even 15 minutes before the class, gives you time to prepare for the day. Make a coffee, brush your teeth or whatever makes you feel awake.
2 CREATE YOUR STUDYING SPACE
Find a place where you can stay focused, try to limit distractions. Tell your flatmates or family when you have classes, so they don't disturb you. Get out of the bed - research suggests, that studying in bed decrease productivity and focus. Moreover, it makes falling asleep harder.
3 FORGET ABOUT YOUR PHONE
Every time you check the phone, you stop focusing on the classes and it's harder to understand the subject, after you reconnect again. Just put your phone away. The further the better.
4 ACT LIKE IN PRESENTIAL CLASSES
During online classes people tend to do other staff at the same time. Cooking, eating, cleaning the room, studying for another subject. Imagine that you are in the "real class" with your friends. You wouldn't do any of these things, right? Don't do them during online classes too - stay present.
5 BE ACTIVE IN THE CLASS
Make your teacher happy. It's so hard to make students active during online classes. You will feel more engaged in the lesson and motivated, when you know the answer for the professors' question.
6 TRY NOTES
As before, it will help you to stay focused and prevent getting distracted so easily. In addition, colleagues will love you, especially before exams....
7 DO STRETCHES DURING A BREAK
There are some good reasons to listen to this advice. Firstly, it improves your flexibility and posture. You give your back a break after all day sitting next to the desk. You might feel more refreshed and ready for the next class.
8 STAY CONNECTED TO YOUR FRIENDS
School or university is not only about studying. Friends are the ones, who make this experience way more fun. If possible (considering the pandemic and social distancing) try to meet with your colleagues at least once per week. If not, there are many online games that you can play or you can just have a meeting on Zoom!
9 DON'T FORGET ABOUT FOOD AND WATER
Not eating enough calories or being dehydrated makes you feel tired and it's harder to concentrate. There are some foods that proven to boost motivation: blueberries, dark chocolate, bananas, avocados...
10 AND REMEMBER: IF YOU FEEL UNMOTIVATED - IT'S OK!
Sometimes there are days, that whatever you do, you might feel sad and unmotivated and it's totally ok! Take care of yourself, see what your body wants to tell you. Maybe you need more sleep, spend time outside the home, warm bath or just a hug.
